Father Harry Cabell
Father Cabell was born on September 25, 1911 in Oklahoma City, OK where he attended St. Joseph’s School. He continued his grade school and his high school education at St. Patrick’s Parish in Parsons. His college and seminary studies were at St. Joseph’s Academy in Hays, Kansas; St. Louis Preparatory Seminary, St. Louis, MO; Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, MO; and St. Thomas Seminary, Denver, CO. Bishop Winkelmann ordained Father Cabell for the Diocese of Wichita on June 9, 1940. After serving as assistant at St. Joseph’s, Ellinwood, he was pastor at St. Bernard’s, Belpre; chaplain of St. Elizabeth Hospital and the Reformatory in Hutchinson with St. Agnes Parish, Castleton; chaplain of St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend; chaplain of St. John’s Hospital, Iola; and pastor of St. Mary’s Parish, Aleppo. Following an illness in 1949 he served as assistant at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Magdalen Parish in Wichita. His last assignment was St. Mary’s Parish in Chase where he died in his sleep on August 28, 1953 at 42 years of age. Bishop Carroll celebrated his Mass of Requiem at St. Mary’s Church, in Chase on September 1, 1953.
