Father Clifford Landis
Father Landis was born in Wichita on August 11, 1914. After studying at Conception Seminary, Conception, Mo., Bishop Winkelman ordained him on June 1, 1946 at Sacred Heart College Chapel in Wichita. As an assistant he was assigned to Great Bend, Dodge City, and Pittsburg. As pastor he was assigned to Arma, Schulte, Strong City, and Florence and as chaplain he was assigned to Mercy Hospital in Parsons for two years. Father Landis was also a chaplain in the Kansas National Guard and attained the rank of major. Due to illness he took a sick leave and, following the leave, was an assistant at St. Mary Parish in Newton until August of 1981 when he retired to the Catholic Center for the Aging in Wichita. He died on December 12, 1981 and Bishop Maloney was principal celebrant of his funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita. Father Landis is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.
