Father James Cronin

Father Cronin was born in Bealkilla, Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland in September of 1884. He studied at St. Michael’s College in Listowel and St. Patrick’s College in Carlow and was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita on June 13, 1909. His first assignment was as assistant at the Pro-Cathedral for one year and then he was made pastor in Garden City. He found the Kansas winters too severe so he went to San Antonio, TX for the winter months for two years. His last assignment of eighteen months was at Scammon with Weir City as a mission. After suffering from “tubercular trouble” for two years he died in Fort Worth, TX on July 23, 1914. Father Cronin’s funeral and burial were held in Scammon.
