Father Paul Meier

Father Meier was born in Russell, KS on March 11, 1917. He did his college studies at Kansas Wesleyan, Salina, KS and Wichita University, Wichita, KS and he did his seminary studies at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Conception, MO and Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. Bishop Winkelmann ordained him to the priesthood on February 9, 1946 at Sacred Heart College, Wichita, Kansas. After serving as chaplain at Wichita Hospital, Wichita, KS for several months, he was named administrator of St. John the Baptist Parish, Spearville. As pastor he was assigned to Caney and Cedarvale; Marion as first pastor of St. Mark’s Parish; Chase; Greenbush; and St. Peter Claver Parish, Wichita. He went to his final pastoral assignment on February 12, 1966 at Immaculate Conception Parish in Danville. “He died suddenly on June 26, 1967 in Grove, OK.” (The Advance, July 7, 1967) His funeral Mass was concelebrated at Danville by his classmates: Fathers Clifford Landis, Leroy Matz and James Roth along with Msgr. Holtz and Father Herbert Mohr. Bishop Byrne delivered the homily. Following a second funeral Mass celebrated by Bishop Carroll at St. Anthony Parish, Wichita; Father Meier was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.
