Father Thomas Ryan
Father Ryan was born in Chicago on May 26, 1908. Following his training at St. Meinrad’s Seminary at St. Meinrad, IN he was ordained there on May 26, 1942. During his priesthood he was an assistant at St. Patrick Parish, Wichita; chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita; assistant at Holy Name Parish, Winfield; and chaplain at St. John Hospital, Iola. “In Wichita he was the founding director of the Catholic Social Service.” (The Advance Register, Mar. 18, 1966) His funeral Mass was celebrated at Christ the King Church in Chicago and he was buried at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery also in Chicago. Msgr. Thomas Glynn and Msgr. Charles Walsh represented the Diocese of Wichita at the funeral in Chicago.
