Father Ignatius Rohr

Father Rohr was born at Antonino, KS on July 31, 1914. He studied for the priesthood at St. Fidelis Seminary, Herman, PA; St. Fidelis Seminary, Victoria, KS; and Capuchin College, Washington, DC. Bishop Winkelmann ordained him for the Capuchin Order on June 9, 1940 at the Sacred Heart College Chapel in Wichita. After serving as a Capuchin priest in Pennsylvania and Kansas, he became a priest of the Diocese of Wichita in 1947. His pastoral assignments were to Strong City and Piqua and in June of 1957 he was assigned to Holy Redeemer Parish in Tampa until his death on September 10, 1973. Msgr. Charles Wash, the vicar general, celebrated a Memorial Mass for Father Rohr in Tampa and Bishop Maloney was principal celebrant and homilist of his funeral Mass at St. Martin Parish in Piqua on September 13, 1973. Father Rohr was buried in the Piqua Cemetery.
