Father George Reinschmidt

Father Reinschmidt was born on September 15,1878 in Rochester, NY where he completed all of his education in the following schools: St. Michael’s Grade School, St. Andrew’s Preparatory Seminary, and St. Bernard’s Major Seminary. Bishop Hennessy ordained him to the priesthood at the Pro-Cathedral in Wichita on October 2, 1904. After one year as associate at the Pro-Cathedral, he was made pastor of St. Mary’s Parish, Pittsburg and then as pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, Spearville. In February of 1916 he received his third and final assignment to St. Ignatius Parish in Neodesha where he remained for thirty-three years. Father Reinschmidt was appointed a member of the Diocesan Council for Vigilance of the Faith in 1923. He died of a heart attack on September 21, 1949 and Bishop Carroll celebrated his Requiem Mass at St. Ignatius Church, Neodesha on September 26, 1949.
