Father Austin B. Hull

Father Hull was born on October 6, 1872 at Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England. He received his education in Leicaster and at St. Mary’s College in Rugby. His seminary studies were undertaken under the Benedictines at Collegeville, MN where he was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita on May 17, 1898. Early brief assignments for Father Hull were at Empire City, at Kinsley and at Great Bend. In 1913 he was transferred to Holy Name Parish in Winfield where he remained until his death at 72 years of age. “He loved music and was himself an accomplished pianist. He was a member of the Diocesan Commission on Church Music and for nearly thirty years was the chief cantor at Holy Week services at the cathedral.” (The Advance Register, April 20, 1945) Father Hull died of a heart attack at St. Mary’s Hospital in Winfield on April 9, 1945. His funeral was held at Holy Name Parish and he was buried at the Holy Name Parish Cemetery in Winfield.
