Father Patrick J. Nagle

Father Nagle was born on March 17, 1875 in County Cork, Ireland. He prepared for ordination at St. Melleray Seminary, Waterford, Ireland and the American College in Louvain, Belgium, where he was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita on July 15, 1900. After two years as assistant at the Pro-Cathedral, he was pastor at St. Patrick Parish in Chanute for 14 years. He then served in Fort Scott for 2 years, St. Teresa’s Parish in Hutchinson for 14 years, Mercy Hospital in Independence with Liberty as a mission for 4 years, and again in Fort Scott for 15 years. He retired in a house in Fort Scott on October 16, 1950. Father Nagle died in his home on December 18, 1951 at 76 years of age and with 51 years as a priest in the diocese. Bishop Carroll celebrated his Solemn Pontifical Mass of Requiem at Fort Scott on December 20th. Burial was in the Mary, Queen of Angels Cemetery in Fort Scott.
