Father George Meyer

Father Meyer was born on September 7, 1863 at Cloppenburg, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, Germany. He studied in Cloppenburg and Warendorf in Germany and at St. Meinrad’s Seminary in St. Meinrad, IN. Bishop Camillas Maes ordained him for the Diocese of Wichita on February 24, 1889 in Covington, KY. From 1889 to 1891 he was the first assistant ever assigned to the Pro-Cathedral. Father Meyer was sent to Andale as the first pastor in 1891 where he died on February 3, 1898.
