Msgr. Thomas Green
Msgr. Green was born on February 20, 1896 at Denton, Kansas but attended the Pro-Cathedral Grade School in Wichita. He studied at St. Benedict’s College, Atchison, KS and Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, MO before being ordained by Bishop Schwertner on June 7, 1925 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita. After serving as an assistant at the cathedral for three years he was pastor at St. Martin Parish, Caldwell and Sacred Heart Parish, Anthony. From 1941 to 1961 he was pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Wichita where he built the present church, school and rectory. His last pastoral assignment was to Immaculate Conception Parish, Burns from 1961 to his retirement in Valley Center in 1966. During his priesthood he was Director of the Rural Life Conference, was Dean of the Wichita Deanery for three years and was made a monsignor in 1957. Bishop Maloney was the principal concelebrant with fifty priests of the diocese for Msgr. Green’s funeral Mass at St. Patrick Parish in Wichita. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Wichita.
