January 6: Msgr. Vincent Hogan

 Msgr. Hogan was born on September 2, 1916 in Chicago, IL. He received his seminary training at Passionist Seminary, Normandy, Mo; Passionist House of Philosophy, Detroit, Mich.; and Conception Seminary, Conception, Mo. Most Reverend Charles LeBlond, Bishop of St. Joseph Diocese in Missouri, ordained him to the priesthood on September 23, 1944, in Immaculate Conception Basilica, Conception, Mo. As an associate Msgr. Hogan was assigned to St. Mary Cathedral and as pastor to Kiowa and Bluff City; Neodesha; Moline; Mulvane; St. Margaret Mary, Wichita; Chanute, Frontenac; and St. Paul along with Walnut and Erie. Following his retirement in 1997 he was chaplain to the Sisters of Mercy in Fort Scott and later moved to the Priest Retirement Center in Wichita. During his years in ministry he was Vicar Forane in Wichita and in southeastern Kansas deaneries, served on the Presbyteral Council, and was a member of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission. On June 7, 1965, he was named a monsignor. Following his death on January 6, 2007, a former parishioner at St. Margaret Mary wrote to Bishop Gerber regarding Msgr. Hogan, “He was a spiritual, soft-spoken man with a twinkle in his eyes, a nice smile and gentle wit.” Bishop Jackels celebrated Msgr. Hogan’s funeral in the St. Elizabeth Chapel at the Catholic Care Center on Wednesday, January 10, 2007. Monsignor was buried at Resurrection Cemetery in Wichita.
