Father John Huna

Fr. Huna was born on July 12, 1869 in Bohemia. He studied for the priesthood in Budweis, Bohemia; St. Paul, MN; and St. Meinrad, IN and Bishop Fink ordained him on January 15, 1893 in Kansas City, KS. After serving for one year at St. Paul, he was assigned to St. John Nepomucene Parish in Pilsen for six years. In October of 1900 he was assigned to Olmitz were he remained until his death at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend on July 25, 1924 of complications from an operation for acute appendicitis. While at Olmitz he built a church and a school and rebuilt them following a fire in 1913. Bishop Schwertner celebrated Father Huna’s funeral at St. Ann’s Parish in Olmitz on July 29th and Father John Sklenar of Pilsen delivered the sermon. Father Huna was buried in Olmitz.
