Father John Dambach

Father John Dambach was born on March 8, 1887 in Buffalo, NY where he attended St. Ann’s Parochial School and Canisius College. Following his studies for the priesthood at St. Bernard’s Seminary in Rochester, NY he was ordained on May 1, 1913 at the cathedral in Wichita by Bishop Hennessy. He served three and one-half years as assistant at St. Mary’s Parish, Newton and as pastor at St. Mary’s Parish in Garden City and at St. John’s Parish in Hoisington (from 1927 – 1942). His last assignment until his retirement in 1949 was as chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Independence and as pastor of All Saint’s Parish in Liberty. He died on July 9, 1953 at 66 years of age in his retirement home on Hood Street in Wichita. Bishop Carroll celebrated his funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Parish in Wichita and followed Father Dambach’s request that no sermon or eulogy be preached. Burial was in the family plot in Buffalo, NY.
