Father Thomas Colgan

Father Colgan was born in Wichita on July 6, 1930 and attended grade school at the cathedral and Blessed Sacrament parishes. His high school studies were at St. Mary’s High School in Wichita for two years and Xavier High School in Cincinnati, OH for two years. After attending Xavier University and Kenrick Seminary, he was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita by Bishop Carroll at the cathedral on March 26, 1955. As an assistant he was assigned to St. Anthony’s Parish in Wellington, St. John’s Parish in El Dorado, and St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Wichita. He attended Catholic University of America in Washington, DC to earn his degree in administration before being assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Pittsburg as an assistant and administrator of the parish high school. Fr. Colgan died in a car accident on a county road near Chicopee on July 24, 1966. His brother, Father Jerome Colgan, celebrated his Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita. Father Colgan was buried at Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.
