Father Joseph Luke Carroll

 Father Carroll was born on December 1, 1896 and was raised in Great Bend, Kansas. After primary and secondary school in Great Bend he studied for the priesthood in Chicago, IL; Louisville, KY; and St. Louis, MO after which he was ordained a Passionist priest on May 29, 1920. After twenty-two years of conducting parish missions and retreats, he joined the Diocese of Wichita in 1942. As pastor he was assigned to St. Patrick’s Parish, Galena; St. Catherine’s Parish, Dubuque; and St. Peter’s Parish, Schulte. In September of 1947, due to illness, he resigned his pastorate and became assistant at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wichita until he took a sick leave during the last year of his life and lived with his mother and sister in Great Bend. He died at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend on March 13, 1951 at 54 years of age. Father T. J. O’Sullivan was the celebrant and preached at the funeral Mass for Father Carroll at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Great Bend.
