Father Robert R. Freed

Father Robert R. Freed was born on Nov. 4, 1927, in Pennsburg, Pa. He was the 15th Episcopal priest in the United States to be ordained a Roman Catholic priest under the special provisions approved by Pope John Paul II in 1980. Father Freed was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita on April 16, 1984, in the Chapel of the Sorrowful Mother at St. Francis Regional Center, Wichita. He served in the following assignments: chaplain, St. Francis Regional Medical Center; substitute priest, St. Mark Church, Marion; assistant pastor, Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Margaret Mary Churches; and as chaplain to Veterans Hospital and Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Fr. Freed retired from active ministry on May 31, 1996. He was residing in Bally at the time of his death, one day before his 83rd birthday.
