Father Charles Steimel

Father Steimel was born in Hays, KS on August 25, 1923 and attended Cathedral High School and Friends University in Wichita, KS before serving in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. After attending St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO; Conception Seminary, Conception, MO; and Kenrick Seminary, St. Louis, MO, he was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita by Bishop Carroll at Blessed Sacrament Church, Wichita, on April 3, 1954. As an assistant he was assigned to Pittsburg, Winfield, and Holy Cross Parish, Hutchinson, where he also taught religion at St. Teresa High School. As a pastor he as assigned to St. Rose Parish in Council Grove, St. Joseph Parish in McPherson, St. Mary Parish in Chase with Holy Trinity Parish in Little River as a mission, and St. John Parish in Clonmel. Father Steimel died on November 8, 1988 and his funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John Parish in Clonmel with Bishop Gerber as principal celebrant on November 11, 1988. Father Steimel was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Wichita.
