Msgr. Arthur Barth

Msgr. Barth was born in St. Louis, MO on December 4, 1909. He did his college and philosophical studies at St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO and did his theological studies at St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s, KS where he was ordained a priest of the Society of Jesus on June 22, 1943. After teaching at Regis College in Denver, CO and serving on the staff of the Institute of Social Order in St. Louis, MO, he came to the Diocese of Wichita in 1948. His first assignment was as a teacher at St. Mary’s Cathedral High School in Wichita and then he was made diocesan superintendent of education. He also was pastor at St. Mary Parish, Aleppo; was diocesan director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; and was named a monsignor on September 15, 1960. Msgr. Barth died of an apparent heart attack in his sleep on October 29, 1974. Bishop Maloney was principal concelebrant at his funeral Mass at St. Mary Parish, Aleppo. Msgr. Barth was buried at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
