Father Ignatius Jimenez

Father Jimenez was born on July 30, 1907 in Incarnacion, Mexico. He prepared for the priesthood by studying at Jesuit Seminary, El Paso, TX and St. Mary’s Theologate, St. Marys, KS and was ordained a priest for the Society of Jesus at St. Marys on June 18, 1941. He came to the Diocese of Wichita in 1955 and, after serving briefly as an assistant at St. Patrick’s Parish in Chanute, was made pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Hutchinson with Castleton as a mission. In 1963 he was transferred to St. Rose Parish in Wellington with St. Mary Parish, Oxford as a mission. In 1967 he became pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Newton where he suffered his first stroke. During the remaining years of his life Father Jimenez lived in residence at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wichita, was chaplain of Halstead Hospital, and was assistant at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Hutchinson until his death on September 2, 1974. Forty priests of the diocese joined Bishop Maloney, the principal celebrant, in celebrating Father Jimenez’s funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Hutchinson. He was buried in the St. Teresa section of Memorial Park Cemetery in Hutchinson.
