Father A. H. Walsh

Father Alfred H. Walsh was born on September 6, 1874 in England was ordained for the Diocese of Wichita on June 11, 1904. As an assistant he was assigned to the Pro-Cathedral and as a pastor he was assigned to Kingman, Hoisington and Cherryvale. On June 30, 1937 he received his last pastoral assignment to St. Patrick’s Parish in Parsons. Fr. Walsh entered Mercy Hospital in Parsons for a check-up because he was not feeling well and died in the hospital five days later after receiving the Last Sacraments from Father Patrick Leahy. “Father Walsh was strict with himself. He never owned nor drove a car. His vacations were few and far apart. He had a devotion to his pastoral duties.” (The Catholic Advance, Oct. 7, 1939) Msgr. Pompeney of Newton was celebrant and Father Schaefers of Wichita preached the sermon at the funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Parish in Parsons. Father Walsh was buried next to his predecessor Msgr. McKernan in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons.
