Father Adolph Stremel

Father Stremel was born on July 14, 1910 in Pfeiffer, Kansas. After attending Conception Seminary, Conception, Mo., and St. Thomas Seminary, Denver, Colo., he was ordained by Bishop Schwertner in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Wichita, on June 6, 1936. As a pastor he was assigned to St. Joseph, Yates Center, with Immaculate Conception, Owl Creek, as a mission; Sts. Peter and Paul, Kinsley and St. Anthony, Hanston; St. Paul, Lyons, and Holy Trinity, Little River; and St. Patrick, Florence. During World War II Father Stremel was a chaplain in the U.S. Army. In 1952 he was granted a leave of absence for medical reasons. Father Stremel died on September 25, 2005 at 95 years of age. Bishop Emeritus Eugene J. Gerber was main celebrant and homilist at his funeral at the Home for the Aged of the Little Sisters of the Poor in San Pedro, Calif. He was buried in San Diego, Calif., next to his parents.
