Msgr. Leo Klasinski

Msgr. Klasinski was born in Leavenworth, KS on August 29, 1892 and there attended St. Joseph’s Parish School. His studies for the priesthood were at St. Benedict’s College, Atchison; Sts. Cyril and Methodius’ Seminary, Orchard Lake, MI; and St. Francis Seminary, Milwaukee. Bishop Hennessy ordained him for the Diocese of Wichita in the cathedral on March 23, 1918. Following a one-year assignment at the cathedral, Fr. Klasinski was made pastor of Chicopee with Fleming, Franklin, and Cherokee as missions. In 1936 he became pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish, Florence, where in 1943 he celebrated his silver jubilee and was made a monsignor. In August of 1946 he was assigned to Spearville where he died just over a year later on September 3, 1947 at 55 years of age. During his ministry he was Diocesan Director of the Propagation of the Faith, a member of the Diocesan Commission for Church Music, a diocesan consultor, and dean of the Dodge City Deanery. He also served two terms as State Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus. Following the funeral Mass celebrated by Bishop Mark Carroll he was buried in Leavenworth.
